Microsoft shut down no-ip domains

It was only last week that I got my ftp server up an running and I'd given out my no-ip address to 100's of our customers to be enable them to download product release notes and firmware etc. This morning my inbox was full of people claiming they couldn't access it. I thought it was strange as I knew it was working last night.

Low and behold those nice guys at Microsoft have taken control and shut down my domain!

This recall us that Internet isn't a web as most of people think it is.
The DNS hierarchy is the weakness, and allow authorities who own the principal DNS servers to do what they want without notice, if you see what I mean...

I think someone mentioned here a few weeks ago that no-ip was about to go down. I know that I recommended dyndns since that has paid accounts and is part of their business model (hence they won't automagically shutdown).
