Hello guys,

What is the maximum size I can give for a dataset?

I created a 4T dataset to test, but the debian that is as a client can not read the that.

You don't create a size for a dataset. There is no maximum size except for number of files possibly being a Max.

I'm using iscsi and dataset.

Why should not I use dataset? Should I use zvol?
Your can't use iscsi and a dataset, it's not possible. You have to use zvol to use iscsi.

Well it could be a file-based extent, but that's pure masochism.

Ok. I have these settings and it works correctly. Where can I check about this in the official freenas documentation?

wow The extent is file-based. :D

Masochism?
You need to describe things better. No one can understand your humor or not.

Yes, it's slower and has no advantages at all (unless you really really must use an existing extent from way back before in-kernel iSCSI was viable).

Okay. Thanks for the new clarification Ericloewe!!

I will check the possibility of using the extent type via device.

Ok. So the size would not interfere with the issue of client-side reading?

That’s not what you asked.

I’m not aware of any client Side issues with large datasets.
