Manipulate DD to output humanized results

I stumbled across this blog and was wondering if anyone had tried it, or had a better method of achieving the same result (DD displaying results in MB/GB instead of Bytes)

I'm assuming that @OP is the commenter on the original link. For posterity sake, the answer to the problem is that it requires Bash features, so first opening bash and running the script should work.
