m.2 NVMe PCIe adapter Freenas ESXi

Hi Folks,

I need more space on my desktop, so I was thinking why not iSCSI with two fast NVMe M.2 SSDs in my freenas.

Since FN is virtualized on ESXi I shall pass it through.


Anyone having experience of this:

will my idea work?

It's likely that card will be doing PCIe slot bifurcation, so the motherboard will need to support it (including BIOS update).

It seems to me that with the above line in order, it will be fine (subject to ESXi being able to handle that (maybe you will need later versions like 6.7 or 7.0).

I use that card and can confirm the bifurcation requirement. I use FreeNAS as my hypervisor and don't run ESXi, though.
