Hello All,
I am new to freeNAS and looking for the compatibility of parts with freeNAS. I have some old 1TB NAS bufflotechs. One failed me and i am on my last one. It never really provided speed for me but did the job. After looking around at Snyolgy I decided it would be faster if i just built it, Speed wise. So here is what i am looking at buying Thanks in advance for any advice you may provide.
What am I wanting?
Expandable as i have it now i think i will have 9TB for backup using ZFS as i want redundency using raidz2.
I already have one 3TB WD RED device that holds my back up of both nas after transfer of data it will be a hot spare if suggested
Speed for read and write to and from the device to my HTPC and streaming to other devices.
My HTPC has an i5 and 16gb ram, it runs Mediabrowser and Plex and a ceton 6 card for my DVR for Suddenlink.
It will primarily hold my movie files and some backups for pictures and files.
I might want to run encryption on not sure if i will or not but is an option.
Plugins of interest?
crashplan
plex
owncloud
Case
I really like the idea of HotSwap drives and this case provides that and expandable.
c
My questions?
Will this be a well built NAS?
Can use this hotswap Case and these hard drives with the SAS controller?
Power Supply suggestions?
I don't fully understand the Cache drive but interested in setting up a SSD if suggested.
Thanks you!
