Just purchased a FreeNAS certified Machine from the TrueNas folks with the community support. I have been ripping apart some older NAS appliances and moving their data over to an Oracle 7120 and a 6140. We needed some inexpensive disk space for our research teams that were $ challenged so we decided this would be a good place to start. In the past a number of consumer grade raid devices like drobos :>( were implemented with little to no success. A number of other proprietary systems were considered, however the support on things of that nature were not to my liking. Better to have an aware community than a closed shop vendor.
Any how you will probably see me out here regularly until I get a handle on this system. Once there I be happy to jump into the discussions on anything I learn and pass on my experiences with it.
