This is my first time posting here, I will try to be thorough but brief.

I'm running
FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201506042008

I'm using iSCSI files for attaching storage on windows server 2003/2008 machines. I use the iSCSI volumes formatted as dedicated backup volumes for windows.

I want to know, is it possible to copy the iSCSI file that FreeNAS created, to another machine and somehow mount the file, like as if we were a VHD? If not, what are some ideas on recovering data from those iSCSI files (without copying the file to another FreeNAS installation and setting up iSCSI)?

Bottom line is, I want to be able to access the contents of the iSCSI file, preferably from windows.

File backing iSCSI extent stores just raw disk data. I have no idea which Windows tools can mount it, but it is as trivial format as it potentially can be -- nothing FreeNAS-specific there.
