Is zfs set sharesmb=on necessary?

After setting CIFS shares on a ZFS dataset, I noticed that zfs sharesmb is always turned off.

At this point I don't understand why (Solaris docs, as far as I remember, recommend to turn it on).

This options is not hooked anywhere in FreeBSD. It is not necessary.

So, when importing a pool (for example) from OpenIndiana I have better to turn it off?

You don't have to, because this option is completely discarded by FreeBSD.​
