Is Intel SCU LSI software-RAID (when not using RAID) pass-through mode?

I've read many articles describing flash LSI meagraid based sas controllers to IT mode firmware for pass-through
and many server have Intel SCU SAS controller /w LSI software raid option rom on board,
If using it to connect drives,but not using raid,is that pass-through and usable?
Is there a way to modify the firmware to change it to passthrough?
or should get a dedicated LSI hw based sas card like H310 or M1015?

You mean on the Sandy/Ivy Bridge-EP's PCH? That's fine, just don't configure any RAID crap.
