I'm eyeballing the Gigabyte MB10-DS4 motherboard for a new build, as it has SFP+ built in and its single PCI-E slot can be used for an HBA.

However, I am having trouble finding compatibility info for its Cortina CS4227/Intel X552 SFP+ hardware.

Does anybody know if the Intel X552 chipset is supported out-of-the-box, or if not, what needs to be done to enable support? I've found one reference to needing to install Intel's "ixgbe" drivers: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005688/ethernet-products.html But perhaps these are already included in TrueNAS?

ixgbe(4) is pretty old driver, so yes, it is included into TrueNAS. And it does support many flavors of X552 NICs, including SFP+ one. But I don't know what is Cortina CS4227.

Thanks, mav! That is great news.

I believe Cortina CS4227 is the NIC vendor's model incorporating the X552.

As I can see it is a PHY chip, probably working together with X552 controller, but I don't know whether it affects compatibility. I hope not.

Want to note that among other things, 10G SFPs run hot, even not under load. Make sure yours are cooled properly.
