The Background:
My box is a HP workstation
CPU is a P4
RAM, 4GB
3ware Escalade SATA control card
Inter Pro 1000 MT dual server card

I got the image from the FREENAS download page
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fre...FreeNAS-i386-embedded-0.7.2.6694.img/download

this is the 32-bit version, because the P4 is a 32bit CPU

I wrote the image to the USB drive with Physdiskwrite
no issues in this

The problem:
after my usb drive is created I plug it in, and boot off the USB drive
Then there is an error message

"CPU doesn't support long mode"

from all I read online this happens when you have a 64 bit image running on a 32 bit system

In my case however
I have the 32 bit image on a 32 bit system

I am a noobie here, so please help, and be gentle

Thanks,

You are right, I don`t know why it fails, try http://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/files/FreeNAS-7-Stable/FreeNAS-i386-LiveCD-0.7.2.6694.iso/download

and post your problem in the 0.7 version of forums: http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/index.php

If you do not have CD reader to install the full version of FreeNAS, you can extrac the file FreeNAS-i386-embedded.gz that must be the same img that you use ( if is not the same , perhaps this was the problem), simply rename it to FreeNAS-i386-embedded.img

live dirsk didn't work

I downloaded the i386 live drive you said

however when I boot off it I get the same error

"cpu doesn't support long mode"

I read online that a intel P4 cpu it compatible with FreeBSD 7 and FreeNAS 7

does anyone know if this is correct?

any other thought?
