Sorry to resurrect an old post but I have just installed FreeNAS on my qnap ts-253a and it works just fine for now. I've upgraded the ram to 16gb and installed the OS on a samsung evo850 250gb via USB. I'm planning to use it as a media server so any advice on any plugins, setup, do's and don'ts will be much appreciated. I will slowly try and transfer data across as I don't want to go through the trouble of transferring it all and then screw up the setup and have to start again.
