IBM ServeRAID M1015 compatibility

I'm thinking of buying this card without any experience in SAS-controllers I'm wondering about the compatibility of this card. It seems that several users of freenas is using this card but from the compatibility list at IBM it only says IBM servers but I guess that is just a guarantee of machines it'll work with. I'm using a mATC Asus mobo with the E-350 CPU, it's working very well but I need more space. Will this card work with standard PC hardware?

Also I read that you should/need to flash it with another firmware? What firmware is this? I read somewhere that it should be something called LSI 9211-IT but I'm terrified of doing something wrong when it comes to flashing.

That's a great card and a cheap way to get yourself an LSI 2008 chip based controller.

I just flashed an M1015 for the first time tonight following those instructions. Worked like a charm.
