Folks,
Back in 2014 I got a HP proliant nas and folks here helped me and i got a basic set up with some mounts and some files on it more as a safe deposit storage.
version FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64 (002022c) is running off a 4gb usb drive and afraid to say I never really got the windows share working on it ...but in the past we had an apple mac that would allow access to the files. A few years went past then a lot of years went past and we didnt use the system but now realise it has some important photos on it ....
The nas booted up tonight and can see all the files we need are on there ....from the shell (which we can access from any windows/apple machine on the network)
i.e

-rwxrwxr-x+ 1 root wheel 3130043 May 25 2014 DSCN0930.JPG
-rwxrwxr-x+ 1 root wheel 3031610 May 25 2014 DSCN0931.JPG
[root@hikmah /mnt/surah/photos]# ls -al 2014_may_bupa_10k/
My problem is mapping the share to view the files from the nas ....
Sadly the windows 10 machine (and 7 before it) NEVER allows me to map the network drive (ip of the nas = 192.168.0.25)
On the mac a similar situation - it is a step closer as it knows the name of the nas (hikmah) but wont let me in ... now 2 years ago the mac was less fussy and we COULD access the files ... my son probably upgraded the mac a few years back :-|
Now I appreciate this is a real old version but wonder if there are any old school folks that are able to help me try and fix the permission issues or are things soooo much better on the new version (would rather not wade thru that really :-| )
I have spent a few hours going through old posts but not really made any advances.
appreciate I probably have tooo many shares here .....
have a few test users lol
I am uk based and so going to write off this evening as a bad day ... and login tomorrow to have another shot .... the bupa 10k photos better be worth it !!
Cheers
Chris
