HW Setup: Hardware raid useful ?!

Hi Guys,

i got an HP NL40 Microserver for testing purposes.
5GB Ram, 250GB HDD, 2x750GB HDD
And a P410 Hardware Raid Controller.

My original plan was a plain linux on the 250 HDD and using the Raid Controller for Striping or Mirrorring the 750s (and mybe 2 more HDDs).

But now after discovering freenas i tend to use the distribution freenas provides and get the benefits of a clean system.

But should i skip the 410 Raid Controller and depent completly on ZFS or should i use it ?
(250GB als a simple AFP Networkshare, 2x750GB as a stripe for Timemashine Backups, maybe 2x2TB mirror additionally.)
