So some of you will know that we've been kicking an N36L around here for awhile, and it's not been entirely clear what to do with it, so I've had it running backups for something to do.

Its lack of a ZIL makes it a poor NFS target for ESXi, and recently when trying to do some configuration changes, it ate its USB key, and I finally decided I had enough. It had an IBM ServeRAID BR10i in it with IR firmware, rotting away doing nothing.

Time to do something. I acquired a 1x5.25-to-6x2.5" cage for it. Then I picked up the cheapest pair of SATA-II SSD's I could locate, and set them up as RAID1. Got that all today and installed it. It is LIGHTNING fast booting now, making config changes, etc.

The Intel 320 I ordered for ZIL hasn't yet arrived yet, but the use of a 1-to-6 cage means that even with the ZIL, there'll be three more slots free. That's pretty awesome.
