Hopefully an easy answer for this.....

Two FreeNAS servers
a) 2 x 1Tb drives
b) 2 x 400Gb drives

Due to requirements I need to move some data on a CIFS share on server (a) to server (b)

My idea....
Copy the data from the 2x1Tb to the 400Gb drives (currently only 240Gb used)
Shutdown both servers
Remove one 1Tb drive from server (a) and replace one of the 400Gb drives on server (b) with it.
Let the mirror recreate (I assume as 400Gb as that's the smallest drive still).
Remove the 2nd 1Tb drive from server (a) and replace the final 400Gb drive in server (b)
Let the mirror recreate (I assume still as 400Gb).
Expand the volume to fill the extra space now that both are 1Tb drives.

Do-able???

Cheers

The drives, when placed in server b, will be out of sync.

If you want data on server a to be on server b, simply copy it using whatever method you find the most convenient to copy it.

I would say, if you have a mirror composed of 2x1TB drives in Server A and a mirror of 2x400GB drives in Server B.

Easiest and fastest is to:

1. rsync the data from Server B to Server A
2. shutdown both servers
3. physically replace the 2x400GB drives in Server B with the 2x1TB from Server A
4. done

This avoids rebuilding the mirror twice and expansion altogether.
