Hi! Im a bit new to Truenas, hopefully you guys can help me out!

To simplify my setup: I have 2x 500gb Drives and 2x 1Tb drives in my system. Configured as mirror in 2 pools.

I'd like to change the 1TB drives to NEW 4TB ones. This will be no problem, just yank 1x 1TB out and replace it, let it copy and do the same with the other.

Now my question: I'd like to use the 1Tb drives as replacement for my 500Gb ones. Since these 1tb drives are not empty, they will not be recognized to add to the pool. So my best quest i have to format them?

What is the best way to do this? And in what particular order?

Thanks alot!

they will not be recognized to add to the pool.
Yes, they will be. Adding them to another pool, will overwrite any present data.
Make sure to have backups, replacing mirrors can wear out the source disk and it may fail before the pool is resilvered.

Instead of simply yanking out the disks, replace (the action in the menu) them. Then, format them before moving them to another pool.
