Hi all,

I'm on the tail end of deploying my first FreeNAS device, I'm wondering what the best method of backing up my data to an offsite location would be?

I would prefer to backup to an external HDD and store offsite, rather than utilize a cloud backup. I didn't see any info in the user guide on how to do this.

I don't require any kind of versioning or anything just a simple copy of what's on the FreeNAS.

My system is pretty basic, a 4 disk system utilizing 4 2TB WD Red drives in a raid 10 configuration.

Thanks for the responses in advance!

FreeNAS is a bit lacking in GUI based backup options outside of replication/rsync to another FreeNAS. If you dig around you may find a script you can setup with a cron job for doing ZFS snapshots sent to an external disk.

Are you looking for incrementals or just rotating full?

Rotating fulls would be fine. I'll try to look for a script of some kind.
