How Does FreeNAS Compare with a LAMP Server for streaming?

Hi,

Really basic question. Right now I have a LAMP server. It serves flv files and mp3 for streaming on my home local intranet. I have a video player like FlowPlayer on the server and a user clicks on a video link and watched the video in their web browser. Works OK.

So let's say I have the same set of folders with mp3 and flv files on FreeNAS. I assume the user sees a folder, sees all the videos in the folder. I assume they could drag or "download" the file. But if they click on a video file can it stream? Stream in the same way as the LAMP server with overtly downloading the file like web-based server? Inside their bowser?

Thanks for your patience!

You can stream media within a web browser with the Plex plugin. Have you reviewed the FreeNAS hardware requirements? They can be much beefier than what is needed for a Linux LAMP server.
