Firstly, I must apologise for posting before introducing myself. I did read the rules before doing so though ;)
Some background and reason I am here is because I have an ever aging cheapo DLINK NAS and although it has served me tremendously well, I thought something slightly more beefier would be more beneficial better for my hoome. Hence, I have at FreeNAS, which is way beefier and making myself total noob in the process.
Project status: I just finished the build and install, and looking very promising so far. Just a little more learning and thinking about permissions and dataset structure for my purpose.
