Hoping for some ideas to help get up and running, never used Unix before and this is just a hobby for a non-techy. Just installed FreeNas on 2GB USB stick and hooked it into an old Dell with two old 250GB drives, but I can't the GUI to come up. After install I get an IP of //0.0.0.0. I looked at my router and it assigns it an IP of 192.168.1.10 using DHCP. But after a few minutes the FreeNas box disappears from the list of computers on my network, screen has message "Watchdog timeout - resetting" after not selecting a 1-10 option. An address ping from my laptop to 192.168.1.10 get's no response. I tried setting the IP manually for IPv4 using 192.168.1.10 and it doesn't show up on network and can't access GUI. The box is connected directly into the router. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Rule 1: RTFM. It says to NOT use 2GB sticks because not all 2GB sticks are a true 2GB.

More details about your hardware would be nice to see (Forum rules #3), as well as your browser, AND your FreeNAS version.

What do you see if you open a command prompt from the console and do an ifconfig -a?

One of your interfaces should have an IP like highlighted below.

Code:
em0: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
        options=42098<VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_MAGIC,VLAN_HWTSO>
        ether 00:25:90:0e:3b:4a
        inet 192.168.1.20 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255
        media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>)
        status: active
em1: flags=8c02<BROADCAST,OACTIVE,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
        options=4219b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,TSO4,WOL_MAGIC,VLAN_HWTSO>
        ether 00:25:90:0e:3b:4b
        media: Ethernet autoselect
        status: no carrier
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384
        options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM>
        inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x7
        inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
        nd6 options=3<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV>
