I am a retired software engineer who is new to FreeNAS. I still dabble in all things hardware/software/data. I am decommissioning a Thecus NAS N5550 with 5x4tb drives and a Web/Database server that runs Dual Zeons on a SuperMicro X10DRL-i & a LSI 9361-8i and the 8x4tb, I have been reviewing the suggested reading from the welcome email I received. Very nice indeed.
At this time I am leaning towards the SuperMicro ATX X11SSM-F-O and the Fractal Node 804 case. Your thoughts, ideas, criticisms and suggestions are welcome. My goal is to re-purpose the LSI card & drives in a new very quiet NAS.
The Thecus interface is a real bow wow. At least it does run quiet.
