Hello all!
Kind of a noob here. I plan my first attempt on a nas build. I've been through the stickies and done my brief research but I want to post the configuration in my mind. Just in case someone notices something wrong with it before I do any rush mistakes! I am excluding the disks as I will get them maybe later (to split the cost between months and to make a second research on the market) here it is:
  • Asrock 1155 E3c204 Server/workstation
  • 2x Kingston 8GB (1x8GB) Memory Module 1333MHz DDR3 Registered ECC 240-pin DIMM
  • Intel Pentium Dual Core (G2020) 2.9GHz Processor 3MB L3 Cache 5.0GT/s Bus Speed (Boxed)
  • 2U Short ATX Chassis - all Black with top vents over PSU and high CFM Fans
  • Single 2U 500W 80 Plus PSU
  • CRS 1-bay, 4-drives SFF CRS-S1042-SAS
  • 2U Socket 775/1150/1155/1156/1366/2011 All Copper Universal Active CPU Cooler
big ups for everyone contributing and many thanks. If someone spots anything "weird", I'd be happy to know!

1. The Kingston memory compatibility chart for that motherboard shows unbuffered RAM, not registered:

http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/Default.aspx?DeviceType=7&Mfr=ASR&Line=Server Board&Model=82186&DisPart=&Description=Kingston_ValueRam_Memory_Server_Premier_Memory_for_ASRock_Server_Board_E3C204

2. A boxed CPU should come with an adequate cooler.
