Hi,

I've been using Freenas successfully for about 2 years now, and everything has been going great. Now it's time to upgrade the hardware on my largest Freenas system. I'm replacing the motherboard and processor, some of the drives that are currently connected to a SATA card will now be connected to the new motherboard. It's a 10 disk RAIDZ2.

Is there an established procedure for this sort of thing?

If I detach the ZFS pool before swapping will I have to set up my shares again? Or is detcaching not even necessary? I want to make this as smooth a transition as possible as we'll need access to our data right away after the upgrade. (And needless to say, I don't want to lose any data...)

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, it's very easy.

Before upgrading:
- Backup your configuration (just in case..)
- Stop sharing services.
- Detach your pool - but keep shares and data when asked!

After upgrading:
- Boot with the same USB stick
- Auto-import pool. Done.

Maybe detaching isn't even necessary, but I'm not exactly sure.

EDIT: Added stop services step.
