Hi,

I have installed FreeNAS on Dell PowerEdge T310 server

- 16GB RAM
- 120 GB SSD Drive (FreeNAS installation drive)
- 3 TB x 5 HDD for Storage Pool

Problem:-
FreeNAS shuts down abruptly. I have checked CPU temperature, which remains normal at about 32 degrees. All the HDD state also shows as healthy.
There are no CRON Jobs or Scrub Tasks defined.
I am unable to find anything in log files also.

Has anyone faced such problem? Any solution to this?

What version of FreeNAS are you installing?

Where can I find these logs...I am new to FreeNAS.

From a shell enter the command ipmitool sel list which should produce the System Event Log list. Look for anything related to a fault at the impacted timelines.

Hello @HoneyBadger @scrappy

I downloaded and installed the version you had given..

Before installing it, I took configuration backup of existing installation and then installed the version you gave. Thereafter I imported the configuration of my previous installation and I started getting errors.

1) It keeps on prompting for login password.
2) Could not find the pool I had created in my earlier installation.

@HoneyBadger @Spearfoot @scrappy

I reinstalled FreeNAS version 11.1-U7.

Services active
ftp
smb
ssh
SMART

still FreeNAS shutsdown abruptly. Below is IPMI log. Is there any solution to this?

Yikes!
Are there any clues in the log file /var/log/messages?

Also, does your T310 have iDRAC support? If so, it might provide more clues. Dell iDRAC link below is for Dell 11g servers like yours:

https://www.dell.com/support/articl...roller-for-dell-poweredge-11g-servers?lang=en

By the way... I wonder why your IPMI subsystem reports a date nearly five years in the past. Have you set the date and time in the system BIOS? I doubt this would cause your problems, but it is odd.

Hi everyone,

Well, it seems that I was able to solve the problem.

I had installed a SATA extension PCIexpress card for additional HDD. This PCI card was creating the problem. As soon as I removed the card from the server, so far the server hasn't triggered a shutdown. Its been up and running since 48 hrs (except for planned restart) which earlier used to shutdown in 4-5 hrs..

Thanks everyone.

PS: I reinstalled FREENas to FreeNAS-11.2-U3 (Build Date: Mar 27, 2019 18:24)
