Hi, I'm putting a FreeNAS 11.1 build together with the following specs and I would like some recommendations for an HBA card that will work without a lot of extra work (or cash $$)

Motherboard - ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 840
Memory - 16gb G.Skill DDR3
HDD - Hitachi HDE721010SLA330 (x8)
PSU - Seasonic SS-400FL
Controller - AMCC 3Ware 9650SE-12ML (tried this one)

AMD recognizes the controller. I can get into the controller BIOS and see (4) drives (all I have attached for now) and FreeNAS sees the 3Ware controller per the DMESG file but when FreeNAS loads it sees no available drives. What budget, 8-port controller can be suggested? Thanks!

The same thing that's been recommended at least 100 times here: Any LSI/Avago/Broadcom 2008-/2308-/3008-based SAS HBA.

That is not a suggested model. Did you look at the hardware guide?

Hardware Recommendations Guide Rev 1e) 2017-05-06

I misread a list for supported hardware and was apparently looking at supported hardware for FreeBSD, not FreeNAS. Thank-You for pointing me in the right direction

Well, unfortunately, "has a vaguely functional driver" and "actually works well" are two different things and the FreeBSD HCL tends towards the former.
