Do yourself a favor and get an Intel NIC instead of bothering with crap broadcom.

+1 for Intel NICs, but I still would think that FreeNAS supports the BroadCom NICs. Quick search of the forums does show others who are running the R710, but while I did not read them all I didn't see too much in the titles about the NICs not being detected.

Do you have the NICs enabled in the BIOS? Also, I am assuming that you are using version 9.10.x?

the BCM5709 are the on board cards, BCM5708 are in the PCI slots. Any ideas why FreeNAS doesn't see the BCM5709?
