I've been using my FreeNAS AFP Shares as the destination for CrashPlan backups from my Macs. I do this by mounting the share and then configuring CrashPlan to back up to the "folder" that corresponds to the mounted AFP share.

Is there anything wrong with using FreeNAS as the *destination* for a CrashPlan backup?

Nope, nothing wrong at all - it's just a client writing files, as far as the NAS knows.

My FreeNAS is acting as the store for four friends'n'family uploading their Crashplan data, set up exacly like you have. No issues whatsoever, writing or reading - except occasionaly on a reboot the Mini doesn't remount the NAS because the remount attempt comes before the network is initialised. I wrote an applescript to work around that.
