FreeNAS 8.0.1Beta4 as a VM in ESXi 4.1 Does Not Recognize USB Drives. I found the same problem with FreeBSD8.2.

I have no problem running FreeNAS 8.0.1Beta4 on a physical box using external usb HDDs. It recognizes the usb device quickly.

OpenFiler in VM ESXi does not have issues with attaching usb storage.

Do any of you know how we address this problem? Since it also affects FreeBSD, this seems to be a problem with the core.

I believe that when FreeNAS 8 is even installed on a physical box it does not support using USB drives in storage pools.

With beta 5 you should be able to mount NTFS/FAT/EXT2 external USB disks from the GUI and share them I believe, but I haven't seen anything that indicates being able to use USB disks in pools.

ESXi version 5 now recognises USB drives that get attached to FreeNAS 8 and FreeNAS 7.

Currently, ESXi4 and VM Workstation 7.1.x mounted USB devices are not recognised when connected to FreeNAS7,8 and FreeBSD.
