Hello,

I have been using FreeNAS 11.1-7 on legacy server hardware for 2 years.
This system is working fine and its being used as an iSCSI disk drive.

Last year i got another legacy server hardware and tried to install FreeNAS 11.2-U3, but something went wrong after initial deployment and i got stuck at a blank screen on boot.
I found out that GRUB was deprecated on the 11.2 release and since it had a new bootloader i changed my mind, i was going to make another try later on.

Last week i decided to make another try this time using FreeNAS 11.3-U2.1 and new server hardware. The result was the same, after initial deploy the server stopped with a blank screen on boot. So i tested the same server hardware doing an install with the old FreeNAS release 11.1-7, and it worked.

My legacy server hardware is the following:
Manufacturer: Fujitsu
Model: Primergy Rx300S5
CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E-5520
Chipset: Intel 5520
Memory: 12 GB DDR3
Raid controller: LSI MegaRAID (JBOD)
Boot drive: 2x USB 16GB (ZFS boot mirror)
Data drives: 2x SAS 6Gbs HDD 300 GB 15K (ZFS mirror)
LAN: 4x 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet

My new server hardware is the following:
Manufacturer: Fujitsu
Model: Primergy Rx1330M4
CPU: 1x Intel Xeon E-2126G
Chipset: Intel C246
Memory: 32 GB DDR4
Raid controller: disabled (AHCI mode enabled)
Boot drive: 2x M.2 SATA 6Gbs SSD 240 GB (ZFS boot mirror)
Data drives: 4x SATA 6Gbs HDD 8 TB 7,2K (ZFS ZRAID1)
LAN: 4x 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet

After all these issues with FreeNAS 11.2 (and newer) and came up with the following question:
Is there any “special” bios/uefi hardware config necessary to get a fresh install done?

Thanks,

Rui Mota
