FreeNAS 11.1 - Trying to install DHCP server in jail (offline)

Hi folks,

As the subject states, I'm trying to install DHCP server in jail in an environment with no internet.
1) Getting the DHCP package... I've gotten FreeBSD 11.1 DVD and have found a paper on how to install the package in a offline manner.
2) However, when I tried to create a jail, it needed to download jail "collections" from the internet.

My question(s):
1) Is jail the right vehicle to house a DHCP server?
Has anyone gotten the DHCP service running in a FreeNAS jail?
If so, what options (VImage, Bridging, etc) do I need when creating the jail?

2) and the obvious - how to get around this jail creation issue ?

I'm afraid I'm a newbie with FreeBSD - first time I've heard of jails and such...

Could you do it.... Probably, but you have to set a static IP address in the jail as well as the FreeNAS or it will not work right.

Since you don't have internet access why not just use static IP addresses for everything. It's simple and doesn't require a bunch of work. Start the client up set an unused IP address and keep a database of what is used. That is all a DHCP server does really anyway.

I intended to use MAC address to static IP for the PXE booting clients - it's only for a set of 5 clients - so, it's not too much maintenance.
Any tutorials on how to extract stuff for the creation of a jail offline?

FreeNAS uses FreeBSD packages, so a Debian DVD is not going to help. Although you might be able to run Debian binaries, but that will only complicate things.

Yes, I've those instructions for installing DHCP in offline mode...
My current block is when I try to create a jail, it try to get some files from the internet - so I can't even create a jail.
I need instructions/notes for creating a jail in offline mode!

Google is your friend then. I doubt most of us here do anything in an offline only mode. It would be easier to just pack up the server and put it online to do the install and then go from there.
