OK, I figured out my new build and now I need to choose between these 2 options. What do you think is better, faster, more stable, and safer choice? They are going to have 96GB of memory.

Option 1

CPU x 2

Option 2

CPU x 1

They are both going to have tested ECC memory

Thanks

Your question about asking what do we think would be more stable, faster, and safer of a choice it really not something people can give you a fair answer to.

FreeNAS 8.3.0 itself is fairly stable. Based on the previous posting you had, you said there would be little usage and maybe a little bit of editing done. I guess knowing what you need such a speed demon computer for would be helpful.

Since you are looking for an opinion, my opinion is to go for the single processor motherboard because the dual processor is not required, it uses less power and creates less heat, the CPU you chose is lightning fast for this application, and it saves you approximately $600.00 that is otherwise wasted money.

On second thought, if you can run the dual processor motherboard with a single CPU installed, you might try that and then add the second CPU later if you determine you need to.

For the system you are building, are you installing 10Gb network ports? If they were cheap, I'd have 10Gb in my house.
