I have a zvol shared via iSCSI to a RHEL 5 box. Periodically, I get the following in /var/log/messages:

kernel: Aborting journal on device sdf1-8.
kernel: EXT4-fs error (device sdf1): ext4_journal_start_sb: Detected aborted journal
kernel: EXT4-fs (sdf1): Remounting filesystem read-only
kernel: EXT4-fs (sdf1): ext4_da_writepages: jbd2_start: 1024 pages, ino 49558069; err -30

sdf is the FreeNAS iSCSI block device I've mounted on the RHEL 5 box. There doesn't seem to be any reason for the abort, nor does it happen at a consistent interval or time.

Has anybody else experienced this/solved this?

Thanks in advance!

With so little relevant information, we can only take a wild guess (with the help of Google). My wild guess is that your FreeNAS or network is underperforming in some way and the VM sees what looks like a failing drive.
