My setup:
Fractal Design Define XL R2
AsRock C2550D4I
2x Crucial 8GB DDR3 ECC UDIMM (CT102472BD160B)
6x WD 6TB Reds HDDs Raid Z2

Looking to add 6 more WD 6TB Reds in another vdev
Would I need to double the RAM too? Could i safely connect and try running 12x6TBs with 16GB of RAM or is it dangerous to try and see the RAM usage first?

Please note that the pc only serves one user at a time.

Thanks for any input!

Sure you can, no danger, just possibly bad performance. Having said that, I would recommend maxing out the boards RAM slots.

Accessing files would not really be the issue in this case AFAIK, but scrubs would take DAYS with a pool that size on 16GB of RAM.
edit: the above statement is assuming of couse the pool is say 40-60% full of data:eek:
