Hi,

I'm new to freenas and I'm trying to get my raid card in freenas via passthrough in esxi/vmware.

When I have added the raid card to the VM I canot boot the OS. I get the following message:
Mfi0: COMMAND 0xfffffe00007c0990 TIMEOUT AFTER xx SECONDS
Mfi0: COMMAND 0xfffffe00007c0a18 TIMEOUT AFTER xx SECONDS
Mfi0: COMMAND 0xfffffe00007c0990 TIMEOUT AFTER xx SECONDS
Mfi0: COMMAND 0xfffffe00007c0a18 TIMEOUT AFTER xx SECONDS

and so on..

I've updated the firmware on the raid card (12.10.7-0001)

I'm currently running FreeNAS-10.2-ALPHA
I've also tried FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE with same problem

Yeah, don't use a RAID card. Please see the LSI sticky. Yes I really mean don't use a RAID card. No there is no good way to make it work the way you hope.

Also be aware that you're on your own with the virtualization. It seems likely to me that you didn't read the Virtualization sticky. It is pessimistic on purpose, but a careful reading would suggest a potential path to success. Regardless, there aren't a ton of people here who are going to have the experience or interest in helping you virtualize. We see it as a generally risky behaviour even if I do run most of my FreeNAS as VM's (but then again I wrote the stickies on the topic.)

As jgreco said.. there is no fix, and the timeouts are your hint to "bail out of this setup right now".
