ESXi FreeNAS Virtualization: Set the OS type to FreeBSD 11 or FreeBSD 12?

Hi

I am running ESXi with freeNAS as a VM. According to the User Guide, when creating the VM, it recommends selecting free BSD 12 or later versions (64 bit) as the guest OS version. Is this correct? I believed freeNAS 11 is based on freeBSD 11?

I have tried both, and freeNAS 11.2 seems to be stable regardless of selecting freeBSD 11 or 12, but ESXi gives a small warning stating that the wrong guestOS has been selected.

ESXi is looking to provide the correct list of supported devices, approximate sizing, configuration hints, VMware tools, and maybe other bootstrap information for helping you to set up your OS. This is less-important (read: almost totally irrelevant) on FreeBSD. Some of it will affect the ability to support things like NVMe passthru or other advanced stuff you probably don't need.
