I think the answer is you can not, but im very new to using any type of virtualization (behind the curve)

Im running a dell poweredge t430
xeon 2630 v3

It is using a Perc H330 Raid Controller to control the 8 drives attached to the back plane (not actually in raid)

Is there any way to pass through 6 of those drives into a virtual machine running freenass or would i need to connect those said 6 drives to a hba and pass the whole card in?
Sorry if this doesnt make much sense

Thank you

You pass through the PCI device, not the drives, so I'd go HBA and pass it through. Every time I have a server like those, I try to have a SSD booting some how, replace the controller with a HBA, and pass it through. In fact I have a DL360 and a DL380 running that config as we speak.
