hi,

First i know it's better to run dual or quad channel for the additional bandwidth, but i'm in a particular problem... i'm starting with fairly low storage need and i know it will expand at lease 4 time its size in the future and i am on a tight budget. so having only 4 RAM slot i want to be able to increase my RAM along with the storage in the future and i don't want be need to sell ram stick to buy higher capacity down the road.

So the question is simple WILL ECC WORK if i am running a single stick of non-registered ECC RAM with a C232 motherboard + XEON?

Of course it will. ECC doesn't depend on multi-channel, and really you won't see a significant performance hit either. We generally recommend using the largest DIMMs you can to allow the greatest future expansion--1 x 8 GB is better than 2 x 4 GB.

thank you for the quick reply @danb35 so 1x16GB will be the solution... and as a bonus right now they are cheaper than 2x8GB :D
