Hi, I am new here but have been using FreeNAS for about 4 years. This is the first time my mirrored drives have had a failure. After replacing my drive and restarting the box I see the new drive in my View Disk window (ada2).

Then when I look at the drive in the Volume Status window is comes up like below.

Then I click "replace" and select ada2 from the dropdown menu and press OK. I get the following message in the log.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Did that disk have a partition on it? That looks like a disk that was already partitioned and the system is upset because you are going to lose the data already on the disk.

Is the disk actually good? Can you run short and long tests on it?

What is a good test to run? never had a problem with my FreeNAS boxes they just keep running....

I did try this one

fdisk /dev/ada2
******* Working on device /dev/ada2 *******
parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are:
cylinders=1938021 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl)

Figures below won't work with BIOS for partitions not in cyl 1
parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are:
cylinders=1938021 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl)

Media sector size is 512
Warning: BIOS sector numbering starts with sector 1
Information from DOS bootblock is:
The data for partition 1 is:
sysid 238 (0xee),(EFI GPT)
start 1, size 1953525167 (953869 Meg), flag 80 (active)
beg: cyl 0/ head 0/ sector 2;
end: cyl 1023/ head 255/ sector 63
The data for partition 2 is:
<UNUSED>
The data for partition 3 is:
<UNUSED>
The data for partition 4 is:
<UNUSED>

So follow the manual for replacing bad disks to completion. You didn't do the last few step(s). ;)
