Hi!

I know that we shouldn't use more than 11 disks per vdev. I am looking at starting with 12 drives, and expanding rather quickly to 18. In this case, would my best bet be going 2 vdevs to start, 6 drives per, then just add 6 drives at a time ( assuming I'm going raidz2).

Is there a benefit, other than having more redunancy, to having smalling vdevs when you have a large # of drives?

IOPS scale with vdevs, so that's at least one benefit of having more, smaller vdevs vs. having fewer, wider vdevs.

Extremely wide vdevs are also really painful to resilver.
