Hello,
I am looking to make an upgrade to my server configuration. Upon upgrading to Corral, I learned that my CPU(s) did not have support for the bhyve hypervisor, and thus I could not use the vm or docker features. As such, I am looking to upgrade to a Dell T3500 workstation. The specs are as follows:
  • Xeon W3550
  • 8GB RAM
According to Intel's site, the W3550 has extended page tables support, but I cannot find a list of CPUs with unrestricted guest support. I'd like to make sure that it has full support for Corral's hypervisor features before I buy.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
you will need a CPU running the Westmere micro-architecture or later to be able to use successfully Docker on FreeNAS Corral.
Most Server CPUs sold after Q1 2010 should be able to handle it.

From which year is that workstation ?

...damn. It appears that the CPU is a Bloomfield/Nehalem version. One generation before Westmere.

Oh well. Thank you for your help.
