Hiya,

Currently assembling a successor to a HP N54L Microserver-based TrueNAS device. Mostly so I can have 10G networking :smile:

Intended build (parts already on the bench):-
Case = Supermicro CSE-731i-300B
PSU = Supermicro PWS-305-PQ (came with case)
MoBo = Supermicro X10SL7-F
HBA = LSI 2308 (builtin to mobo)
NIC = IBM QLE8142 (Qlogic)
HDD = 4x WD Red WD30EFRX (Dated 2013 so CMR) (+ several cold spares)
Sys drv = SSD 120GB Sandisk

Other factors:-
Primary use - SMB file store for Windows domain, media store for Kodi, PiCorePlayer.
No encryption
No deduplication
No jails (I use a separate virtualisation host)
No plugins (yet)
Some single points of failure so it will sync with another TrueNAS box I already have.

CPU - Which one?? :-
E3-1225 v3 or E3-1240 v3 (I have both in hand)

RAM - currently I have:-
2x 8GB Kingston KVR16E11/8 (DDR3 1600Mhz ECC Unbuffered CL11 Dual Rank)

----- Should I go 32GB ??

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for reading,

P

The Qlogic 10G stuff doesn't work well. Please check out the 10 Gig Networking Primer for a discussion of stuff that works well. Boils down to "Intel, Chelsio"

Another trip to ebay then. Not much of a selection here in the UK and post-brexit I don't buy from abroad because extra potential costs.

Just snagged a Solarflare S7120 for OK money to test out.

Also you can probably put a 10G card in that thing heh
Not sure how. The x16 slot is occupied by a H200.

Thanks,

P
