I have a Asus P8Z68-vpro motherboard since has 8 sata ports which I think makes it a good for a FreeNas server, but I need a processor what should I get? a i7 or a low power i3 will be fine?
for memory I have a 16GB kit
I have 6 1TB drives I plan on using then on raidz2

I imagine the i3 would be fine. They're the low end of the i series, but they're not to be trifled with.

I have a FreeNAS server with an i3-530(first gen i3) and it can do amazing things. I can saturate 2 Gb LAN connections simultaneously, and ZFS scrubs go at over 500MB/sec.

Personally, as soon as you get an i-anything and have enough RAM you have a recipe for success!

An i7 for home use is overkill on a FreeNAS system. The only potential reason I could think of is some plugin that hasn't been developed or running some virtualbox systems in the jail. It sounds like your needs are simple and and i3 should be perfect.
