Convert to FreeBSD

How easy would it be to take an existing FreeNAS installation and convert it into a fully fledged FreeBSD installation without losing any of the web gui functionality provided by FreeNAS?

Would it be easier to install FreeBSD and then install a kind of FreeNAS add-on package that provides the functionality? Does that kind of thing even exist?

It would be equivalent to forking the project. If you have to ask, the answer is "no".
