I have set up a NFS share on a Linux client machine.. I set AllUser setting for the NFS share on the server to 'root'. NFS sharing is working.

I would like to ask if I'm the only individual using my FreeNAS server then do I need to create a user and group?

If its recommended to create a serperate user and group for accessing a NFS share (maybe for security), then could somebody help me with doing so. I've tried to following the YouTube tutorial on creating a seperate non root user for accessing nfs shares but it has me totally confused.

Thank you for your help.

If you trust all the machines on your LAN, you can just set the Mapall User and Mapall Group of the NFS share to match the owner and group of the dataset you're sharing.
