Hi all, 2 questions re HBA on newer equipment
1. is there a HPSA firmware driver for FreeBSD/FREENAS ?
2 can we blacklist CISS firmware driver from loading using loader conf?
Seems majority of *nix based distros have stopped using CISS and gone forward with the HPSA item. http://cciss.sourceforge.net/
Server gear is GEN9, 16GB ECC REG, Xeon 6core v3 processor.
- LSI SAS2118i with P20 IT HBA working only with loader conf added: hw.pci.enable_msix=0 & hw.pci.enable_msi=1 (LSI driver on gen3 PCIe caused NMI event 6 hours after stress testing, additional loader conf restricts LSI driver to PCIe 2.2 interrupts standard from my reading)
- H240 SAS HBA works initially but detected link transfer speeds detected as 135MB/s (dmesg) and also crashed the system (actual disk write speeds at hard-drive sas 600Mb/s, not 135Mb/s)
History with FreeNAS is 2+ years using Gen6 HP servers, generic desktop gear and Gen7 AMD & Gen8 Intel Microservers so I am very familiar with the successes of using FreeNAS. Replication, recovery etc all tested in past so this Gen9 server getting hung up over HBA drivers in PCIe 3 tech seems a little odd to me. I only need the two questions to be reviewed so I can figure out what direction to take.
