Hello All,

I am new to FreeNAS and am planning on building a Plex + FreeNAS system with some spare boards and cpu I have laying around. I have two motherboards and need some advice on which would be best.

Mobo #1: ASRock H170m Pro4 ( Link )
Mobo #2: Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H ( Link )

I will be pairing an i5-5600K with one of the above boards and currently have no memory - would also take some advice on this also depending on which board. Both boards have just been collecting dust and I've been meaning to build a Plex server so I can move the hosting off my main PC. Which board would you advise for? Thanks!

Out of those two, the more desirable board for FreeNAS is the Gigabyte one because it has an Intel network controller.
That said, you might be better served to sell both of those boards and purchase an actual server board that has IPMI remote management.
Here is a link to a parts list I put together earlier this year. It is older hardware but still more than good enought to do the job. It is what I use for my NAS.
