Even though I am the owner of a file, I cannot seem to set the ownership to another user through the GUI, I get Access Denied. Once this happens, the ACLs become a mess. If i use the GUI to change back the ownership to myself, I get "A device attached to the system is not functioning".
The only way I have found to fix ownership issues on CIFS shares has been via the command line, using chown.
The problem then is that the inheritance bit on the ACLs disappears, and the permissions become incorrect.
To fix that I needed to use icacls from a Windows machine using the /RESET /T switch.
This seems to be way too complicated, perhaps a bug?
