Cant share USB passthrough on VM and OS

I was not able to find a clear answer but the way I understand is that I cant share usb controller with OS and a VM. I am looking to get an pci usb controller so i can assign it to the VM.

my old laptop is dead that was sharing out the printer for the network. I set up a vm to host the network printer. I tried to find it on the pass through menu but it shows nothing in the passthrough list.

Just wanting to confirm before buying pci usb controller to fix my issue.

had to go another way, found another thread that confirmed that i could not use the sub with host and share it with the VMs.
